Jotaro Kujo is JoJo's most iconic character within the entire franchise. Within the 6th installment of the series, fans were shocked to see this powerhouse finally go down, permanently. However, this caused a lot of questions and speculation.
Why did Jotaro lose?
I'll try my best to answer this question, and hopefully, by the end of it, I've satisfied everyone taking their time out of their day, to read this post(Zank u)
Jotaro's Condition:
Near the reveal of Jotaro's appearance, he's put up against a stand known as "Whitesnake". The stand's most iconic abilities are to take someone's memory and stand away, leaving their lifeless body only to rot away. If provided with medical support, then you'll be put into a coma-like state:
It is officially confirmed as well that Jotaro had been weakening from this coma. It is stated that he was weakening at "unimaginable speeds". The reason for Jotaro weakening should also be noted: Jotaro weakening has nothing to do with the stand disks themselves. Jotaro weakened because he was not being active. He lacked the resolve in him to even stay awake. All of his stamina was lost, to the point where simply breathing became a problem. We know this is the case specifically with Jotaro and not the stand disks cause we see this never happened with Weather Report. Weather Report remained completely fine after his memory disk was taken away. Jotaro is in the same situation, yet he remains un-active. Before anyone argues Jotaro lost both his stand and memory disk and this is why he was un-active, the scan above is AFTER Jotaro regained his stand disk. So the only thing he's missing is his memories. Meaning he's in the same boat as Weather Report. Weather Report remained active, Jotaro did not. It has nothing to do with the disks but rather, the characters. This practically means that even if Jotaro did regain his memory disk, it doesn't give him back his strength. Jotaro losing his strength was cause Jotaro himself decided to stop being active which then led to the lack of stamina. This change was not due to the disks. It was due to Jotaro's own decision of lacking physical activity. Some people may argue that Jotaro is a human being who can surpass light speeds, being able to take a full explosion to the face while still surviving. Who's to say he can't ignore the effects of a coma? While I do understand this argument, this is not how it works. Just cause Jotaro is shown to do things normal humans should not be capable of doing, it does not mean we should just assume Jotaro can do anything a human cant do. Jotaro still needs oxygen, he still needs food, he still needs sleep. Nothing implies Jotaro can ignore the effects of a coma. This is also ignoring the fact that its 100% confirmed Jotaro was bothered by the coma so I don't see why people would try to argue this to begin with...
Time Span of the Coma:
Stone Ocean Chapter 1
The time the incident took place was Oct 28th
The day Jolyne was being arrested was Nov 2nd.
The day Jolene's stand started to awaken was on Nov 6th
The day Jolyne is sentenced is Nov 8.
It never implied once that 1 day has passed after this trial.
So we can assume the day Jolyne met her cellmate was the same day of the trial.
One day has passed, making it Nov 9th.
This is the same day Jolyne fully manifests her stand and defeats Gwess.
It is implied not much time has passed ever since the battle. There should also be no reason to assume more than a day has passed. We could assume at least a day has passed but again, nothing implies it in the first place. For argument's sake, we'll say the time span should be no longer than 3 days, max(This part of the argument is not relevant as we know not much time has passed since then so I suppose it doesn't really matter which side you take on it)
That same day she gets knocked out
A day passes by, making it Nov 10th(or less than 5 days after that depending on your take on the previous argument)
Her father, Jotaro Kujo, visits her.. We know the same day Jotaro arrives is the day he's put into a coma state due to Whitesnake's ability.
The time span of Jotaro being in the coma had started sometime around Nov 10th.
Stone Ocean Chapter 147:
The day Jotaro wakes up from his coma is around March 21st.
Yes we know for a fact Jotaro wakes up the same day Jolyne fights Cmoon which is the same day of the final battle:
Jolyne implies Jotaro should not have regained his consciousness yet as they had only recently given the Speedwagon foundation the memory disk in order to fully resurrect him. It should also be noted that this should be the same day Weather Report died. I don't think I need evidence to tell people that the gang should not be taking any days off as time is ticking away until the day heaven arrives. There is also no reason to assume it's NOT the same day as Weather Report's death. It's pure headcanon to assume otherwise. Some may try to argue that Jolyne could be wrong. However, nothing implies Jolyne is wrong. Characters tend to be right unless proven otherwise. It does not make sense for the Author to put false information inside of his own work without ever revealing it's wrong. Jolyne's statement is always gonna be correct until proven or stated otherwise.
With all this in mind, Jotaro had been weakening at unimaginable speed from a coma since Nov 10th, all the way to March 21st. That's 4 months of weakening at "unimaginable speeds"...
How This Affects Star Platinum: The World:
It is confirmed within the 3rd installment of the series, Stardust Crusaders, that whatever happens to the stand also happens to the user and vice versa. Meaning if Jotaro's own body is being weakened by a coma, the same should apply to his stand's body.
Some may argue that the scan shown above is referring to physical damage and nothing more.
This is contradicted within Stone Ocean:
Despite Ermes being the one to touch the snails, the speed of her own stand was still affected by it regardless.
With this in mind, Star Platinum: The World weakening from the coma is highly likely.
Star Platinum: The World's Status after its Coma:
Some may argue while it is true Star Platinum The World weakened, there is nothing implying how much weaker the stand really got. I find this argument to be a bit desperate, considering it's confirmed that Jotaro was weakening at "unimaginable speeds". This should automatically give us the idea that Star Platinum: The World's Power was nerfed on an enormous scale. You could argue more than half of its power was drained with the "weakening at unimaginable speeds" statement considering that this was happening to Jotaro for 4 whole months...
If you want a concrete idea of where Jotaro scales after its coma, we can start by scaling the main character of part 6, Jolyne Kujo
Stone Free and Whitesnake are relative in speed. Stone Free does eventually surpass Whitesnake in speed, but this is irrelevant as we only know Stone Free becomes fast enough to only minor blitz Whitesnake. This alone proves she isn't faster than light. This is explained in Note 1(Hit Control F on your keyboard at the same time and type in "Note 1:".
Early Stone Free=Whitesnake
Weather Report is stated and proven to be stronger and faster than Whitesnake to a noticeable degree.
WR>>Early Stone Free=Whitesnake
Weather Report goes for an attack but the light Pucci was reflecting had hit Annasui faster than Weather Report's attack could connect. Essentially making Weather Report slower than the speed of light, alongside any other stand that scales up or near him. Some people will try to argue that Weather report was not going at full speed or that he was holding back immensely. This is far from the truth as we know Weather Reports only goal in life is to kill Pucci with 100% bloodlust.
Weather Reports reason for living is to only kill Pucci. Weather Report holding back would make no sense.
Weather Report had lost his leg and used Annasui to act as a substitute. Again, giving Weather Report even more reason to not hold back.
We also see Weather Report pierce right through Pucci's arms, launching him across the street, and hitting a car. This gives off the impression that Weather Report is not f**king around. He's taking this fight seriously.
Weather Report tries to decapitate Pucci's head. Again, implying that Weather Report is trying his best to kill Pucci. He's not holding back. He's taking the fight as seriously as possible.
Light>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Weather Report>>Stone Free=Whitesnake
Note 1
While it is true Stone Free should scale above these 2 characters, it isn't evident that she scales so high that she's capable of reacting to light:
Weather Report does not make the slightest bit of movement when light is traveling to Annasui. This gives off the impression that anything that moves at the speed of light views Weather Report(alongside any other characters that scale to this character) as mere statues. This is how slow these characters are compared to the speed of light. Stone Free is faster than Weather Report, but not THAT much faster. We know this cause:
Pucci is still capable of blocking some of Stone Free's attacks while also being able to throw Jotaro's memory disk in the middle of all of it, albeit barely. Stone Free is faster, yes but not to the extent of viewing characters like Whitesnake and Weather Report as statues, the same way light speed itself does.
Light>>>>>>>>>>Developed Stone Free>=Weather Report>>Early Stone Free=Whitesnake
So we know all these characters scale slower than light, right? Now we enter the Made In Heaven arc:
Jolyne(a character that should not be able to perceive or move at light speeds) is capable of perceiving Made In Heaven. This gives us the impression that Made In Heaven is slower than light. If a character is not able to perceive light speeds, they are only capable of perceiving anything that's below light speeds. Jolyne(a character that cant perceive light speeds) perceived Made In Heaven. This makes Made In Heaven slower than the speed of light. If Made In Heaven is being perceived by non-light-speed characters, this makes Made In Heaven slower than light. Made In Heaven moves faster than Jotaro can see. Star Platinum: The World after its coma is Slower than Light assuming Made In Heaven avoided attacks from the stand, to begin with.
^That last part is explained in Note 2(Hit "Control F" at the same time on your keyboard and type in "Note 2")
Why Jotaro Lost:
If it was not obvious already, the coma had a very ginormous impact on this final battle. Jotaro had woken up from a 4-month coma that had been weakening him at "unbelievable speeds". This is ignoring the fact that Jotaro had woken up the same day he fought Made In Heaven. In other words, Jotaro had 0 time to recover. This practically means Made In Heaven is not fighting Star Platinum: The World at its Peak. It is fighting a severely weakened variant of Star Platinum: The World. A Version that is nowhere near comparable to what it once was. For those who paid attention to the feats above, this practically means a Star Platinum: The World, without any weakened side effects like a coma, could pretty much blitz a Made In Heaven. Star Platinum: The World could have neg diffed Made In Heaven. If it had not been for the coma, Star Platinum: The World would have retained its faster-than-light speed attacks, being able to attack faster than Made In Heaven could even think. I know some people will find this idea a tad bit ridiculous, but in all honesty, when looking at all the evidence that supports this idea, can you really say it's wrong?
The possible chances of a Star Platinum: The World not being affected by the coma:
Now I do believe that there is a possible chance that Star Platinum: The World was not weakened by its coma:
After waking up from the coma, we see that it is still considered to have "Tremendous power" and "Unbelievable speeds".
Annasui and Jotaro give off the impression that the only stand that is capable of putting down this threat is Star Platinum: The World. Again, giving us the impression, the idea that Star Platinum: The World is the ultimate stand. It's still the same stand that's been talked about during these past 22 years. Nothing's changed. This is assuming you wanna take the narrative side of the story over the feats which is understandable in this case considering there is 1 singular feat in Stone Ocean that results in a slower-than-light speed cast(Weather report getting out sped by light)
We still need to remember one thing tho...Jotaro himself...did weaken...
Regardless of what you think about Star Platinum The World's situation, Jotaro himself is weaker.
^Why does this matter? We have to remember that Jotaro himself has his own perception speed.
Jotaro's Perception speed should be on par with the combat speed of his own stand before his coma. Yes, we know for a fact most of Star Platinum's decisions come from Jotaro himself. It is not Star Platinum acting on his own perception but rather listening to the mind of his own user based on the user's perception:
Anubis confirms Star Platinum gets carried by Jotaro's ability to think at extremely high speeds.
Jotaro reacts to the burst of speed coming from Anubis. We know this cause Jotaro goes "What? A burst of speed?", confirming he is able to perceive these same stands that go toe to toe with his own. Of course, his perception speed and the speed of his own stand get higher than this as the part goes on but this was just an example to prove that Jotaro's perception speed should be on par with the combat speed of his own stand.
So we know what his perception speed was like before his coma. But.. unfortunately, this is no longer the case after the coma. We know for a fact Jotaro himself is severely weakened by his coma. We have to remember that the only thing Jotaro was running on was adrenalin, PERIOD. It's a miracle that Jotaro is even able to stand during the final battle. We see his permanence as an E after his coma. This gives off the idea that Jotaro no longer has the stamina to stay in one piece when taking in blows from other stands. This makes sense for someone who just got out of a coma. When waking up from a coma, your perception, your stamina, and your senses are all weakened. It causes you to act dizzy. It prevents you from being able to concentrate with 100% focus on the current situation. With this in mind, you can easily argue that Made In Heaven was not actually out-speeding Star Platinum: The World, but rather out-speeding the weakened perception speed of Jotaro himself.
Note 2
As soon as Star Platinum: The World started barraging, Made In Heaven was already gone. Again! We need to remember Jotaro's perception speed should be far weaker than what it had been originally. This allows Pucci to f**k with Jotaro, and change position before he even attacks.
In this scene, Made In Heaven avoids getting into Star Platinum: The Worlds' range. We see Star Platinum: The World on screen. Pucci jumps out of the way off-screen. Made In Heaven avoids the range.
We see this happen again. Star Platinum: The World had punched multiple and multiple times, confirming that none of those punches were landing cause Pucci was out of range. Until Star Platinum: The World got close enough...the only thing that remained was an after-image...
Pucci was already gone..again.
The point I am making is that Pucci never actually scales to Star Platinum: The World's combat speed. He always tends to either avoid entering the range of his opponent or avoid attacks before their even shot due to the advantage he has over Jotaro's weakened perception speed. Another way to explain it is Pucci is avoiding the direction Star Platinum: The World is attacking from.
Let's use the anime:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYBKMuLnnOA&t=573s
2:04
^Made In Heaven constantly runs around circles over Jotaro but notice how none of the punches are landing. Some people will argue "Oh those are after images. Pucci is moving faster than the punches"
We know this isn't the case:
We see he stops in the middle of the barraging punches, then jumps out of the way. This would not make any sense if these were mere after-images. Why jump out of the way when..you're already fast enough to casually dodge these punches? Not just that, but Pucci stopped in the middle of those punches..ye he was not hit? At all? This also doesn't make sense IF there were after-images. The reason why Pucci was not being hit was cause he was out of range. This makes sense seeing how Pucci JUMPS OVER Jotaro, in order to slice his neck. Why jump over the stand? Why not just pass through? If Made In Heaven was fast enough to avoid Star Platinum: The World's attacks, why jump over the stand's attack rather than avoid it head-on?
Note: Pucci running around in circles is anime only. In the original source that was created by the author's hand(The Manga), Pucci doesn't do this. We see Pucci is already above Jotaro's head right when Star Platinum: The World is barraging the area he had thought Pucci to be in.
3:30
Pucci backs up before he could enter Star Platinum: The Worlds range again. We see Pucci stops then back away, and right after that happens, THEN Star Platinum: The Worlds punches reach that area. Then notice how Pucci never comes back or doesn't just go for Jotaro head-on again. Instead, he runs away.
Some may argue Pucci doesn't fight Jotaro head-on due to Time Stop. This isn't the case cause Pucci knows Jotaro can not stop time back to back. Every time Pucci avoids Star Platinum: The World's range, it was after time had been resuming from a time stop. Time stop cannot be an excuse for Pucci to not be fighting Jotaro head-on. We also know this is the case cause Pucci outright contradicts this argument during the final battle. He gives Jotaro a pep talk right before killing him AFTER another time stop. So no, Time Stop cannot be the reason why Pucci kept avoiding to just fight Star Platinum: The World toe to toe
9:25
Pucci gets closer and closer and closer, falling into the barrage of attacks coming from Star Platinum: The World. So close yet..so far...
Pucci was already an after-image before Star Platinum: The World's attack could even reach. We know this based on how blurry Pucci looks in that first frame. After-images are usually shown to be blurry within fictional media(anybody here watch The Flash?..no?..what about Supergirl?..nobody?..Nah jk. It's common sense that after-images tend to be blurry cause of how fast something is moving. Yea, it's possible you move so fast that your afterimages look like a 100% clone of yourself without any blur but Made In Heaven has never demonstrated such feats. I also don't see why this matters when the first frame of Pucci is a blurred variant of himself. It is an after-image. I spent time talking about this after-image thing cause I know people will try to argue it's Pucci himself, not an after-image but hopefully, I've convinced people it is an after-image...
Something people may try to argue is that Star Platinum: The World should have its own perception(which is true) so why didn't it just go by its own command and blitz Pucci when it had the chance?
It can be argued that Jotaro had been using Star Platinum: The World at full manual use. Pretty much preventing Star Platinum: The World from following its own rules or direction of attack. Wherever Jotaro wanted to attack, he 100% forced Star Platinum: The World to attack in that exact direction REGARDLESS of where Pucci is located cause at the end of the day, to Jotaro's perception, he attacks where he last saw Pucci.
The main cause for Jotaro's loss is not because he was simply outpowered, but because he was severely nerfed by the coma that he had been in for the entirety of the part, practically nerfing his senses and potentially, the power of the ultimate stand.
What would have happened if Jotaro was never nerfed by the coma, to begin with?
Well...
Thanks for reading this post, and I hoped I satisfied everyone with a reasonable explanation for Jotaro's loss during Stone Ocean.
With that being said, Im done. This took too long to make, Gimme a break bruh...
