—Hey Ya!, SBR Chapter 9

Hey Ya! (ヘイ・ヤー Hei Yā) is the Stand of Pocoloco, featured in Steel Ball Run.

Appearance

Hey Ya! is a roughly humanoid Stand. Its head is shaped as an upturned bucket, marked on top by three concentric circles, and malformed eyeholes of uneven size. It wears a wreath of many small, hollow cylinders, and its lips are pierced by a row of short nails.

Hey Ya! is light brown in the colored manga.

Personality

As part of its ability, Hey Ya! is an overtly positive and friendly character towards its user. While a bit demanding with its requests, it nonetheless means only wellness towards Pocoloco, not unlike a trainer. Its capacity for speech serves almost-exclusively to boost Pocoloco's mood and confidence. One of its keywords is "luck", telling its user that luck is on his side, whether or not it is actually true, in order to motivate him, something somewhat like the beliefs of Ken Oyanagi.

Ability

Hey Ya! has no combat ability whatsoever and seems functionally useless apart from boosting its user's confidence with encouraging words and brief advice. The Stand does seem to possess some kind of insight into possible future events, but this is limited to the Stand itself and cannot be viewed by the user, it is solely up to Pocoloco to take the risks Hey Ya! suggests and trust that they will bring him good fortune.

Cheer On

Hey Ya! is seen lurking about Pocoloco, whispering advice, motivating him to take advantage of his own luck. Despite the misconception that the Stand improves Pocoloco's luck, it doesn't do anything other than encourage its user and put them in a good mood.[1] However, it does appear to be able to see the future to a certain extent, as it told Poccolocco that he "wasn't supposed to fall off [his horse] yet".

Hey Ya!'s seemingly prophetic vision appears to be limited to the Stand's own knowledge and does not give Pocoloco the ability to see into the future himself. Despite all this, Pocoloco begins to have a string of fortuitous circumstances happen to him when he follows Hey Ya!'s orders, apparently just through sheer coincidence. Hey Ya!'s ability overall seems to be that of pure guidance, the Stand gives advice to its user on the best course of action to take but it is up to the user's own motivation, alongside trusting in Hey Ya!, to make these visions a reality. Whether it was thanks to Pocoloco's amazing luck or not isn't clear, Hey Ya! cheering him on was also powerful enough to encourage his victory of the Steel Ball Run in the end.

Trivia

  • Hey Ya! is also the name of Pocoloco's horse, although the two sound the same when said out loud they can be told apart by his horse's name actually being "Hey! Ya!," with an additional exclamation mark after "Hey."
  • This Stand's name was only revealed in the JOJOVELLER artbook.
  • When Hey Ya! first appears it is actually one of the few natural manifestations of a Stand to have been seen happen in all of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
