JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R is a remastered version of the 2013 game, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, boasting a modified and upgraded roster of 50 characters, new stages, and several improved mechanics.

Differences and Updates[]

Gameplay Differences and Updates[]

Stylish Guard[]

Players can now draw out a 'Stylish Evade' until an attack lands, giving a better opportunity to counterattack.

Assist System[]

The Assist system (also referred to as "Support Attack") allows the player to bring in a CPU to help achieve longer chain attacks and even use a long-range attack (called an "Assault Assist"). Furthermore, the Assist System can also allow you to summon a character to break your opponent's combos (dubbed a "Reversal Assist"), though this ability requires a prolonged cool-down period to avoid spamming.

Aesthetic Differences and Updates[]

Alternate colors swaps can now be viewed via the character select screen, before beginning a battle, as well as many characters receiving updated names to better match the anime's localization. Characters also now have animated victory poses, as opposed to the previous stationary ones. The command list's UI (User interface) was also updated to easier view prompts.

Technical Differences and Updates[]

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R boasts an improved frame rate of 60FPS on all consoles and PC (with the exception of the Nintendo Switch edition), as well as adding Input Buffers, lowering the required number of frames players must wait before inputting the next command. The game also features an update to the game's speed, resulting in smoother and quicker battles, alongside simplified special attack inputs. Hitstops were also added, and taunts and certain techniques received adjustments.

Gameplay[]

Despite having the same rules and visuals, the gameplay has changed drastically. Combat is now slower since Hit-Stun is more slower, some characters' attacks have now been changed, such as Diavolo's Epitaph, Giorno's Frog Counter, Time Stop From Jotaro, DIO, Jotaro Part 4 and AU Diego, and Josuke's Bubbles. The taunt mechanic is also modified; you can only use it only once, unlike the original game where the player could use it as many times as they wanted.

    Trivia[]

    • All Characters from Parts 1-6 have their default colors and voices altered to match up to their anime appearances.
      • Despite this, Whitesnake's voice sounds different from the anime.
    • Pucci's Whitesnake was only created with the purpose of avoiding spoilers for anime-only watchers. Which is why original iteration of Pucci from previous game, now dubbed "Final Pucci" and Kennedy Space Center Stage, including a newly added Weather Report are not included in the initial release until the final episodes of Part 6 aired where these three contents are available for free via updates.
    • In the game files, many discarded interactions from All Star Battle Mode are seen, although most of them are different versions from in-game interactions.
    • The Season Pass 1 DLCS have special interactions with Joseph Joestar from Part 2, despite never meeting him in their respective parts (except for Stroheim).
    • Esidisi and Old Joseph have their voices reused from Eyes of Heaven and the original All Star Battle, due to their voice actors being deceased in real life (this also causes their voices to not appear in the start menu). Additionally as of 2024, this game was released almost two years before the passing of Lisa Lisa's voice actress.
    • Hayato and Reimi's lines in the game are recycled directly from the anime.
    • Part 1 Dio , Caesar, Lisa Lisa, Mariah, and Pet Shop have their renders reused From Eyes of Heaven.
      • Diego uses the render of his alternate self from Eyes Of Heaven as well, while his counterpart (now referred to as Diego (THE WORLD)) has a completely different one.
    • Speedwagon, Part 4 Jotaro, Trish, and Whitesnake Pucci also have their renders recycled from Eyes of Heaven, but are modified to match up with their current in-game models and colors. However, only Stroheim whose character render is actually brand new, where his shirt variant as his default costume instead of his shirtless variant.
    • Although the characters have their voices and colors updated to resemble their anime counterparts, their manga panels when using Josuke and Joseph's Counter or having determination mode will always have the colors of the original 2013 game, making them look outdated
      • This also applies to the new characters as well, such as Foo Fighters, Trish and Stroheim.
