Paco Laburantes (パコ・ラブランテス Pako Raburantesu) is one of the core allies of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's nine part, The JOJOLands. Paco is a member of the same gang as Jodio Joestar, and is a Stand User who wields THE Hustle, which gives him the ability to grab anything by using any muscle on his body.

Appearance

Paco is a young man of an athletic and muscular build. His ear is damaged, a chunk of it being noted to have been bitten off by his abusive father, and he has dark marks around his eyes. 2 years prior to the story's start, he was mentioned to have been chubby.

His hat has a nameplate with "P∆CO" engraved on it; the name also carved onto his belt buckle and similarly onto one of the straps along his chest.

Personality

Paco is a quiet teenager who will speak up if the moment calls for it. He often gets annoyed by Usagi Alohaoe, like when he's introduced to the team by Meryl, or when he arrives late with the group's car and when they arrive late to Rohan Kishibe's villa. When Usagi brings up the idea of going by color codenames, Paco tells him to shut up. Although Paco and Jodio work together often, they only see each other as co-workers. However Paco begins to warm up to and like Jodio after Jodio helped him escape from the police. Jodio describes Paco as a petty thief. He is a young man who lives a life of crime, just like Jodio and Dragona. Despite being 19, he is still in high school, implying a lack of academic skills. Paco is seemingly defined by his activity as a thief to Jodio. Jodio also describes him as someone who loves stealing more than playing video games or eating. It is noted that Paco can also be violent; while he is intimidated when Dragona scolds him for stealing from a client, he challenges Dragona to a fight.

History

Background

Paco lives in Honolulu, Hawaii. He suffered from domestic abuse from his abusive father and in one incident, his father bit off a piece of his left ear. Paco eventually joined a gang in his neighborhood. Despite being 19, he was also held back for a year. He apparently used to be chubby, but recently he has been described as "ripped". Barbara Ann Joestar claimed that there were rumors that Paco was in prison for about a year.[3]

The JOJOLands

While riding his electric scooter at school grounds, Paco tells Usagi that he could find the drugs he ordered deep inside the rain gutter. Later that same day, Jodio, Dragona, and Paco are summoned by their boss, Meryl Mei Qi, to the fashion boutique named Iko Iko. Paco attempts to steal from one of the customers but Dragona stops him by grabbing his ear. Meryl makes an announcement to close the shop and then orders the three gang members to turn off their phones before showing them her own phone. On the screen is a natural blue 24 carats diamond worth 6 million dollars. It's owned by a Japanese tourist who owns a villa on the Island of Hawaii and plans to stay there for around 12 more days. Their group will be getting a 2% split all together, while Meryl gets an 18% cut after they sell it on the black market. She also informs them that they will be going as a team of four. Usagi who Jodio and Paco sold drugs to at school in the morning arrives as their fourth member, as Meryl guarantees that he will be useful to them. During another drug deal with a supposed "college student", Paco drives by and tells her that she just stepped on the drugs hidden under some leaves and drives away. After recovering the drugs, the woman pulls out her gun and declares that it was a drug bust and that they are being arrested, revealing she was actually an under cover cop. DEA agents tackle Paco off his scooter and Jodio is thrown to the ground. Jodio then uses November Rain's ability to destroy the evidence of the drug exchange and makes the police flee, impressing Paco. Both of them safely get away.

After the group arrives at the Kona Airport in Hawaii, Dragona scolds Usagi for being late and not providing a car. Usagi reassures the group about the mission by stating that he knows a safe car rental that does not have tracking devices or cameras. In the end, they trust him due to the recommendation from Meryl Mei Qi and depart, with Paco driving their rental. After arriving at the villa of the Japanese tourist and getting briefed, Paco starts devising a plan on how to get the diamond. Paco decides the group will strike when the owner comes out to the pool and steal the diamond from the master bedroom in 15 minutes or less. Dragona instructs the group to put their earphones and masks on, and not to say each other's names on the radio. As they approach the estate, Usagi tells Dragona to wish to have the camera installed on the side of the house. This activates Usagi's Stand, THE MATTEKUDASAI, which copies the camera. He uses the cameras to create two distinct videos, making the recorded evidence useless. The group continues on its way in. Once inside, he attempts to steal many other items, though Dragona forces him to put it all back. He does however pocket some of the cash he found secretly. They eventually find the safe where the diamond is located, and upon retrieving it, attempts to escape. However, the group is attacked by a mysterious, string-like stand. As the string like stand continues to wrap itself around Paco and Dragona, Usagi the only one not affected by the ability tries to alert them of the cause but Paco brushes him off. He however realizes a way to remove the string ability by using the THE Hustle to scrape it off his leg, as the group attempt to escape with the diamond, it ends up falling out of Pacos backpack where He and the others are then confronted by Rohan the owner of the diamond and mansion. Rohan uses Heavens Door first on Dragona and then on Usagi to read his memories, incapacitating him after, A furious Paco attempts to retaliate on Rohan but he is swiftly incapacitated next.

When Paco finally awakes, he finds that Rohan has already be captured, and begins to blow a fuse as both he and Usagi approach Rohan with the intent to beat him up. But when they are stopped by Jodio, they eventually give up on their desires. It is then that Jodio explains that the strange lava rocks that they found in the safe must be as valuable or more valuable than the diamond. After smashing one and seeing Rohan's reaction, this is all but confirmed. As they leave, Dragona asks Paco to carry the diamond, as she can't "Steal it" for some reason. He grabs it and seems to have no issue with it.[4]

Paco was the one holding the diamond as they escaped. As they walk through the jungle, he trips on a tree root. It is then that they realize that the diamond has come out of it's pocket. Paco swears he put it into a zipped pocket, and Dragona tells him that this is the same thing that happened to her. They believe all the stolen items are gathering to the lava rock based on their value. But when Jodio is caught by the wire, and Dragona tries to free him, both Paco and Dragona end up sewn together. Paco soon realizes that Usagi has betrayed them and made off with the loot, leaving them to die.[5]

Paco, still sewn to Dragona, stays under Jodio and the protection of his Stand. He slowly attempts to use THE Hustle to climb the tree so Jodio can cut himself down, but they're attacked by the trees. Paco is nearly squeezed to death by the wire, but when Jodio manages to neutralize one of the cats, Paco is saved. Then, when Usagi returns and crashes the car into the tree, he almost seems touched that Usagi hadn't betrayed them.[6]

As they prepare to fly back to Oahu, they stop by a cafe to wait for boarding when Jodio and Usagi decide to experiment with the Lava Rock. They realize that anything of value manages to find its way back to the rock. Dragona decides to take it into a luxury watch store to "Experiment" further with it. During that time, Jodio and Paco decide to have Chicken Burritos. During this time, Jodio comes to realize that they're being tracked.[7]
